Description

The culture of the society in which we live can influence us in many ways. This can include our outlook on seeking support. It also affects the type of support that is needed, as well as whether or not we decide to seek help at all. Cultural norms may influence how people communicate their needs and which symptoms they choose to report. For the care provider, becoming culturally aware should be a high priority. When we are culturally competent, we are able to provide care on a whole other level. This can make a difference on whether a person chooses to accept outside care or not. You as the care provider can have a negative impact or a positive impact on a person in need of assistance. We hold a great weight on a person's experience with accepting care. Even if a person really needs the help, with a bad experience they may chose to avoid seeking it.
