Throughout life, we will likely experience things that are stressful, difficult, or challenging, this is part of normal life experience. But someone may also, unfortunately, experience an event beyond what's normal, causing physical, spiritual, psychological, or emotional harm. This could be from a variety of events like witnessing violence or being a victim of violence, going through a natural disaster, neglect, etc. As care providers and a community of people in general, it is so important that we understand the effects of trauma. How we approach providing care and the type of care we provide to a person who has been traumatized differs from that of someone who has not experienced trauma.
